Root Canal treatment (Endodontics) is a dental procedure used to treat a tooth that has become infected. This has occurred because a small hole or leak has created a pathway for the bacteria in your mouth to infect the inside of your tooth. The treatment is performed so the tooth can be saved, which otherwise would have been lost (extracted!).
Although Root Canal treatment has quite a bad reputation, you should not feel any pain as the treatment is performed under local anaesthetic. Endodontics
Dr Moheen Khan is our clinician who has a Special Interest in Endodontic treatments. This means that he is able to tackle more complex treatments that a General Dentist could not provide. These treatments include: re-doing existing root treatments; retrieval of broken instruments; repairing teeth with perforations; teeth with wide open ends; and root canal apical microsurgery. Anyone who has ever experienced the pain and discomfort caused by an infected root canal will appreciate what an asset Dr Khan is to our practice.
The pulp will begin to die if it is infected by bacteria, allowing the bacteria to then multiply and spread. The symptoms of a pulp infection can include: pain when eating or drinking hot or cold food and drink, pain when biting or chewing, or a loose tooth.
