How Dermal Fillers Can Make You Look Younger

Dermal fillers are a great solution to replace lost volume in the skin. Keep on reading to find out what causes wrinkles, and how dermal fillers can help to reverse the signs of ageing.
What causes wrinkles?
From around age 27, the face starts to show visible signs of ageing. This is because as we age, the skin loses both its structural strength and visible volume. Youthful skin has two essential components that deplete with the years that pass us by:
- Collagen, which provides the skin with support and structure
- Hyaluronic acid, a carbohydrate that attracts and binds water, recreating skin volume that has been lost over the years. This also helps to hydrate the collagen within your skin and maintain its elasticity.

Your body’s biological ageing process, combined with the Earth’s gravitational pull and the sun’s ultraviolet light (amongst many more factors), causes the appearance of the face to change over time.
Wrinkles form as the skin loses its elasticity and ability to ‘bounce back’ to its smooth appearance.
Have you noticed the lines that used to only appear when you would smile or frown have started to hang around on the face when the muscles have relaxed? This is how the wrinkles form between the eyes and at the corners of your eyes.
We call the folds between the corners of the nose and the top lip, the nasolabial folds. The grooves between the corners of the mouth that expend down towards the jawline are called marionette lines (named after the marionette puppets and the shared appearance with the lower part of the face). Folds represent the combined loss of volume, structure, and downward migration of the face due to gravitational pull.
How do Dermal fillers smooth wrinkles?
Dermal filler treatments can be used to replace volume lost from the face as part of the ageing process. They also help to create lift in an attempt to defy the ageing appearance of the face. We aim soften the nasolabial (nose to lip) folds of the mid face and the sad marionette lines (corner of the mouth down to the jawline) in the lower part of the face.
Our goal is to restore your confidence in your appearance and make you feel like the best version of yourself. We can routinely treat wrinkles on the forehead, between and around the eyes so that you can look and feel great.
considering lip fillers to plump your pout?
Have you noticed your lips change shape or even start to disappear as you have gotten older? The lips also lose their volume and become thinner. This gives the appearance of a smaller and less voluptuous set of lips.
We can design and shape the lips depending on what you desire. We can create natural subtle shaping or give you greater volume and shaping. Enhancing these areas can boost your confidence and make you want to show off your smoother age defying look.
where else can dermal filler be used?
I am often asked what the other common sites for filler treatment are. A few lesser-known sites are the chin and jawline. The treatment can act to tighten the skin in this region and subtly soften a Jowl appearance (this can be preferred by some patients instead of surgical treatment in certain cases).
Enhancing cheek shape and definition can also be done with filler. This is a popular treatment for creating lift for the skin. We can also soften and remove fine lines between the top lip and the nose (perioral lines) with dermal filler, which gives a smoother, natural, more youthful appearance.
